Made from the first flush tips plucked from bushes cultivated in deep shade, harvested only once a year, these flat sharply pointed leaves produce a very green cup with a vegetal flavor.
Translated "Jewel Dew", Gyokuro belongs to the world’s finest and rarest teas; originally made in the historic Uji tea gardens near Kyoto. Before harvesting, the bushes are covered with straw shades to slow their growth. The result is an exquisite tea that is low in tannins.
Recommendations: Use 1 heaping tsp. per 6 oz. cup; heat fresh, cold water to first signs of steam (140°F); let steep for 1.5 min. Try a shorter 2nd and 3rd infusion.
