SATURDAY
10:00AM Gung Fu Style Oolong Tea Tasting
Mr. Brian J. Wright, owner and founder of Shan Shui Teas in
Washington D.C., hosts a hands on tasting teaching the methods used to
prepare oolong teas in the traditional Gung Fu style, often described as the
Chinese Tea Ceremony. Teas tasted will be some of Taiwan's most celebrated
teas of the year that Brian handchose on his spring trip to Taiwan. Sunday
tasting as well. Tastings limited to 25 people, 10$ per person.
12:00 PM The Difference Between Tea and Herbs
Mr Barry P.W. Cooper is internationally recognized as a Master Tea
Blender having over 35 years of tea and herb tasting experience. He has
lectured on tea, shipping and tea manufacturing techniques and is a frequent
speaker at industry seminars. He is currently serving his fourth term as a
Director of the U.S. Tea Association. He was born is England and raised in
Kenya in the highlands next to a tea estate. He came to America in 1971 as
a member of Thomas J. Lipton and traveled extensively around the world as
part of the Lipton Tea Buying Group. In 1978, Mr. Cooper acquired Simpson
and Vail, a gourmet tea and coffee mail order company which he later sold.
He ended his career at Lipton in the position of Manager of Tea Buying and
Blending, to participate as an investor and manager in the leveraged buyout
of Celestial Seasonings. In mid 1992, he left Celestial Seasonings to form
his own company, Sandbar Trading Corporation, specializing in botanicals,
spices, and tea. In 1993, Mr. Cooper became CEO of Stassen North America,
which was formed in partnership with the Stassen Group, one of the largest
exporters of tea from Sri Lanka, owning 42 tea estates in Ceylon. Event

3:00 PM Herbal Tea for Health and Pleasure
Boulder's own herbalist, Brigitte Pfeiffer Mars, creator of the
UniTea Herb Tea Line, gives a free demonstration and discussion on how
certified organic herbs can be blended to create natural, healthy, and
delicious beverages. Brigitte's teas include the popular MentalclariTea,
ImmuniTea, and others! A wonderful opportunity!
7:00 PM China's World of Rare and Organic Tea
Join David Lee Hoffman, owner and founder of Silk Road Teas in San
Francisco, for a lecture and slide presentation of tea farming and
production followed by an evaluative and comparative tea tasting. David Lee
Hoffman has been traveling to the remote back country of Asia for twenty
five years seeking out the world's finest rare, organic, and wild pure leaf
teas. Mr. Hoffman is the first American to work directly with farmers in
China and to engage in joint ventures with old, established tea gardens. He
travels to China two or three times a year, spending six to twelve weeks per
visit. Not only is he buying tea to export, but more importantly, he is
working with the prestigious Tea Research Institute, the Chinese Academy of
Agricultural Sciences, and the Department of Agriculture, to help them
implement sustainable and organic tea farming practices.
Mr. Hoffman is currently writing a book on tea with the working title of
"Tea: From Farmer to Cup". The book is being published by Ten Speed Press in
Berkeley

Join Miriam Novalle, founder, owner, and master tea blender of New
York City's largest teahouse, T Salon in an exploration of the many
wonderful flavors that can be created in the world of tea. Ms. Novalle
takes us on a journey into the spirit of tea and the way that cultures
around the world have embraced this healthy and delicious beverage.
